Abstract
Alfred Hitchcock has been dead since 1980, but he's never really gone away. Now two movies about the man himself have turned up within a month or so of each other. Part of the reason for that is the accidental nature of film development-both scripts have been around for a while. The potent combination of Hitchcock's artistry and his many years as a recognizable public figure made it possible. Hitchcock began in silent films, moved on seemingly effortlessly to sound, and then television. Each time the wind shifted, he did enduring work and he never seemed to break a sweat. A Buddha-like imperturbability was the cornerstone of his personality. His contemporaries, some of them giants in their time, are still watched, but their films can feel dusty and to view them often one would have to make a conscious effort to put oneself into the past. Freeman discusses Sacha Gervasi's film "Hitchcock," film production of some of Hitchcock's most famous films, and certain aspects of Hitchcock's personal life, having known the famous director before he died.
