Q. Did filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock die a millionaire? — J.S., Lexington.
A. A multimillionaire. Before his death in 1980, his contract with Paramount Studio gave him residual rights to five of his best films: "Rear Window," "The Trouble with Harry," "The Man Who Knew Too Much," "Vertigo" and "Psycho." When the contract expired he ordered all prints destroyed while he kept the valuable negatives. In 1984 Hitchcock's daughter, Patricia O'Connell, signed a lucrative contract with Universal Studios, for the re-release of the films.
