Alfred Hitchcock has set "The Short Night," a love story with strong suspense and action elements, as his next motion picture for Universal, it was announced by Ned Tanen, president of Universal theatrical motion pictures.

Acquisition also was announced of film rights to "The Springing of George Blake" by Sean Bourke as the source of the opening scenes of Hitchcock's 54th motion picture — his first since last year's "Family Plot."
