SCREEN THRILLS REACH NEW HIGH IN WANGER FILM

(Advance Reader)

Breath-taking excitement, romance and drama, mystery and intrigue are unfolded in the thrill-packed story of Walter Wanger's "Foreign Correspondent," which was directed by Alfred Hitchcock with a prominent stellar cast and is slated for a gala premiere at the .... Theatre .... Mr Wanger decided to make "Foreign Correspondent" in recognition of the intrepid group of American newspapermen who served as the nation’s eyes and ears during the European debacle, risking their lives daily in order to keep their own people informed of the rapidly shifting panorama of war.

"Foreign Correspondent" has in its principal roles Joel McCrea, Laraine Day, Herbert Marshall, George Sanders, Robert Benchley, Albert Basserman, Edmund Gwenn, Harry Davenport and Eduardo Ciannelli.

Before Alfred Hitchcock got through with issuing orders for the filming of the production, Alex Golitzen, the art director, had spent some $200,000, had made 800 sketches and had built several odd settings. This is a typical Hitchcock request. All of the famous directors films put an important stress on authenticity of stage settings as well as on superb camera work. Hitchcock feels that both elements must be well presented in order to make the perfect film.

Hitchcock himself went to work on the "Foreign Correspondent" script. Joan Harrison and Charles Bennett wrote the orignal screenplay. Hitchcock, James Hilton and Robert Benchley contributed dialogue to the final script.
