Philippe Halsman (1906–1979) was an American portrait photographer born in Riga in the part of the Russian Empire which later became Latvia.
During his long and illustrious career, Halsman took a number of famous photographs of Alfred Hitchcock. His daughter, Irene, later recalled:
My father and Hitchcock were friends and corresponded together. My father had a huge wine collection that he shared with his guests, including my father. On one occasion, Hitch sent him some rare wine goblets.
