Ingrid Bergman wins Emmy

Pia Lindstrom accepts an Emmy, American televisions most coveted award, on behalf of her mother, Ingrid Bergman, who died last month of cancer. The award was for her portrayal of Mrs Golda Meir, the late Israeli Prime Minister, in "A Woman Called Golda".

The police series "Hill Street Blues", which won a record eight Emmys last year, captured another five awards and the "Fame" series, based on the film about youngsters trying to achieve stardom, also brought its total of awards to six. Lord Olivier was named outstanding actor in a limited series for his role in "Brideshead Revisited".
