Peggy McCay

Peggy McCay has had a significant career in soaps. In addition to her current role as Caroline Brady on Days Of Our Lives, McCay played Iris Fairchild on General Hospital and Vanessa Dale on Love Of Life. Small wonder some fans call her Queen of the Soaps.

Born in Manhattan, McCay grew up torn between acting and science. She aspired to be another Madam Curie — except that she didn't like chemistry. So she went the acting route, appearing Off Broadway in her early teens opposite another promising newcomer, Patricia Neal.

After graduating from Columbia, McCay toured in a repertory company, eventually landing her own sitcom series, Room For One More. Unfortunately it was up against Bonanza, so it sank quickly into the sunset.

But McCay went on to appear in the series Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Hawaiian Eye, Lou Grant, St. Elsewhere, Newhart and Cagney & Lacey.
