Stewart appealing Rear Window ruling

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court agreed Monday to hear an appeal from actor Jimmy Stewart and the daughter of the late Alfred Hitchcock seeking to overturn a ruling that said they must share profits from the re-release of Rear Window.

In 1942 author Cornell Woolrich published a story called "It Had to Be Murder". In 1954, Stewart and Hitchcock bought the rights.

In 1968, just before Woolrich was scheduled to sign over the copyright for another 28 years, he died. His estate sold his copyright to a literary researcher for $650.
