HITCHCOCK TO RECEIVE AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

On October 19, the Institute's Board of Trustees selected Alfred Hitchcock as the seventh recipient of the Life Achievement Award. Hitchcock, 79, has remained steadfastly unpretentious over the years, alluding to himself as an "entertainer" in the face of critical adulation and claims of unexpected profundities in his work. The 1979 Life Achievement Award Dinner will be held on March 7 in Los Angeles, and televised nationally by CBS-TV.

George Stevens, Jr., who will produce the televised tribute, said in announcing the Award: "Since 1925, Alfred Hitchcock has devoted his life to telling stories with film. The result is a remarkable outpouring of over 60 feature films and hundreds of television shows which bear his distinctive signature. His mark on American filmmaking extends beyond his public to a new generation of filmmakers whose work is inspired and influenced by 'the master of suspense.'"
