Breakdown (radio play)

First broadcast on 15 May 1949 as part of the Prudential Family Hour of Stars radio series, Breakdown was written by Louis Pollock and starred actor Joseph Cotten.

Pollock's short story version was included in Alfred Hitchcock's a Baker's Dozen of Suspense Stories, published by Dell in 1949.

In May 1955, the Los Angeles Times reported that Hitchcock had just purchased the screen rights and was planning to turn it into a feature length film once The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) had been completed.[1]

Instead, the play was adapted into the Alfred Hitchcock Presents television episode Breakdown, first broadcast in November 1955, in which Cotten reprised his role.
