One of her best known role, and a rare English-speaking part, was opposite Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief (1955).

Speaking to a reporter Lydia Lane in July 1954, Auber explained how she became an actress:

I started out to be a dancer, but at school I became so interested in dramatics I decided to became an actress instead. I still love to dance, it's my favourite exercise.[1]
