- The Strand magazine publishes an article about the Limehouse district of London, describing Salmon Lane as the "great market street of the district, which is densely packed from end to end with a Saturday marketing crowd. Here are soldiers and sailors in plenty, a few Lascars and Chinamen, Irish hawkers, and a sprinkling of foreign Jews."[1]
