- Hitchcock visits London to discuss potential material for Transatlantic Pictures' debut film with Sidney Bernstein, and to scout for locations that could be used in footage for the The Paradine Case — this includes a trip northwards to Cumbria with unit manager Fred Ahern. Hitchcock then travels on to Nice, France, to search for a French actress should Alida Valli be unable to star in The Paradine Case.[1]
December
- 19th - Principal photography begins on The Paradine Case, starring Gregory Peck, Ann Todd, Alida Valli and Charles Laughton. The start of production was delayed by two months due Selznick's decision to close his studios during a Hollywood strike.[2]

- The Hitchcocks celebrate their daughter Patricia's high school graduation with a lavish party at their Bellagio Road house. Among the guests are Alida Valli, Whitfield Cook, Hume Cronyn, Jessica Tandy, Arthur Laurents, Farley Granger, Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman.[3]
