- The House Committee on Un-American Activities begins a series of hearings in Washington D.C. to root out Communist influences in Hollywood. Among those affected by the subsequent Hollywood blacklist with links to Hitchcock are writers Arthur Laurents and Dorothy Parker, actors Hume Cronyn, Norman Lloyd and Canada Lee, actress Barbara Bel Geddes, and composer Lyn Murray.[1][2]
