1917

  • With the First World War entering it's third year, 18-year-old Hitchcock is declared "unfit for military service" (C3) and so continues to work at W.T. Henley's Telegraph Works. Unable to join the army, he instead signs up for the Royal Engineers and takes part in evening and weekend exercises, including marches around Hyde Park.[1]
