Kelly's Directory of Essex 1886
"Kelly's Directory" was a trade directory in the United Kingdom that listed all businesses and tradespeople in a particular city or town, as well as a general directory of postal addresses of local gentry, landowners, charities, and other facilities.
The following is a selection of pages from the "Kelly's Directory of Essex 1886" which may be of interest to Hitchcock researchers and includes entries for:
- the locales of Dedham, Leytonstone and Stratford
- lists of Essex greengrocers and fishmongers
- tailor Henry Hitchcock (b. 1827), the Parish Clerk of Dedham (his father Ebenezer Hitchcock (b. 1790) was also the Parish Clerk)
- Stratford fruiterer and greengrocer Joseph Hitchcock (b. 1830) residing at 80 Windmill Lane, and his brother Charles Hitchcock, living at Holloway Down, Leytonsone
- Joseph's son, Joseph Hitchcock (b. 1857), a fruiterer at 114 Forest Lane, Forest Gate
- The Kipping family — local grocers who married into the Hitchcock family
