Hitchcock in for life

Alfred Hitchcock has been named the seventh winner of the Life Achievement Award by the American Film Institute, the organization announced yesterday in Los Angeles.

The presentation to the 79-year-old British-born film director will be made on March 7 in Beverly Hills.

Previous winners are Henry Fonda, James Cagney, Bette Davis, Orson Welles, John Ford and William Wyler.

The award, according to the institute, is given to those "whose talents have in a fundamental way contributed to the film-making art."
