Summary

A sardonic look at the dark secrets of the British Film Industry of the 1920s and 30s, where scandal and sordid behaviour was almost as rife as in Hollywood. Based on Sweet's book "Shepperton Babylon: The Lost Worlds of British Cinema".

The documentary includes segments from Blackmail (1929), The Ring (1927), The Farmer's Wife (1928), Elstree Calling (1930), Downhill (1927) and The 39 Steps (1935), as well as covering Lillian Hall-Davis, Donald Calthrop, Anny Ondra, and Ivor Novello.
