  • William and Emma Hitchcock, along with their two young children, move to 517 Leytonstone High Road. Although the house has since been demolished, after being bombed during the Second World War -- a petrol station now occupies the area -- a blue plaque commemorates the approximate location.[1][2][3]

1904

  • William Hitchcock appears listed in the London Telephone Directory for the first time, as a greengrocer living at 517 High Road, Leytonstone, and contactable on telephone number Wanstead 569.[4]

1906

July

  • The July 1906 London Telephone Directory is the final time William Hitchcock and family are listed as living at 517 Leytonstone High Road.[5]

1994

August

  • Actor Barry Foster unveils a ceremonial plaque at the former site of 517 The High Road, Leytonstone, to commemorate Hitchcock's birthplace.
