Leytonstone, London

Leytonstone is an area of east London and part of the London Borough of Waltham Forest. It is a suburban area, located seven miles north east of Charing Cross in Greater London. It borders Walthamstow to the northwest, Wanstead to the north, Leyton to the south, and Forest Gate to the east.

The High Road

The main thoroughfare in Leytonstone, High Road Leytonstone, which runs the length of Leytonstone to Stratford is an ancient route dating to pre-Roman times.

Alfred Hitchcock was born at number 517 on August 13, 1899.

St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Cemetery

Situated a short walk to the west of where Alfred Hitchcock was born, St. Patrick's Cemetery is the final resting place of at least five members of his immediate and extended family, including his parents and his sister.

Leytonstone Tube Station Mosaics

In honour of the centenary of the birth of Hitchcock, the London Borough of Waltham Forest commissioned the Greenwich Mural Workshop to create a series of 16 mosaics of Hitchcock's life and works in the tube station. Work was started in June 2000 and unveiled May 3, 2001.
